LAUREL E. HENDERSON has devoted nearly 30 years of law practice to working on behalf of local governments. She currently represents the City of Pine Lake as City Attorney, the City of Conyers planning and zoning function as an adjunct to the City Attorney, and frequently consults with City Attorneys on a myriad of issues. On behalf of the Georgia Interlocal Risk Management Agency, she has defended cities and their officials across the state and continues to do so as her primary practice area. Particular areas of expertise include First Amendment (both signage and adult entertainment), planning and zoning, and drafting of ordinances and legislation.
Laurel also serves as a hearing officer for personnel and licensing hearings, conducts investigations upon request of local governments, and has assisted various boards in an advisory capacity during the hearing process. Certified by the Alternative Dispute Resolution Office in both mediation and arbitration, Laurel brings considerable expertise to resolution of difficult policy issues. In addition to local government work, Laurel has served as a guardian ad litem in contested custody disputes.
A graduate Magna Cum Laude from Georgia State College of Law, Laurel is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the Local Government Law Section of the State Bar. She is also a fellow with the Lawyers Foundation of Georgia. She has served as President of the Local Government Section of the State Bar. Laurel was named a SuperLawyer for five consecutive years in the areas of municipal and local government law.
